The process for issuing and following-up on JIU recommendations is guided by the provisions of the JIU Statute, approved by the General Assembly, which states the following:
Article 5
1. The Inspectors shall have the broadest powers of investigation in all matters having a bearing on the efficiency of the services and the proper use of funds. […]
5. The Inspectors may propose reforms or make recommendations they deem necessary to the competent organs of the organizations.[…]
Article 12
Executive heads of organizations shall ensure that recommendations of the Unit approved by their respective competent organs are implemented as expeditiously as possible. Such implementation may be subject to verification by the competent organs of the organizations, which may also request the Unit to issue follow-up reports. The Unit may also prepare such reports on its own initiative.
The rate of acceptance and implementation of recommendations by each organization is also reported to the General Assembly, through the JIU Annual Report.
Monitoring of JIU Recommendations
Once a report is issued, the text of all recommendations is uploaded into the JIU Recommendation Tracking System where the focal points from the JIU participating organizations can provide an update on the acceptance and implementation of those recommendations.
Focal points can access the system through the following link. JIU Recommendation Tracking system
JIU reviews also normally include additional informal recommendations, which are not tracked by the JIU, but which organizations are highly encouraged to implement.
JIU Dashboard
The interactive dashboards below show acceptance and implementation rates of JIU recommendations included in reports, notes and non-confidential letters issued since 2004 and addressed to at least one of the 28 JIU participating organizations.
It should be noted that the acceptance and implementation status of recommendations are reported by the organizations and are not systematically verified by the JIU.
The information can be filtered by year and by organization in the first dashboard and by report and by organization in the second dashboard.
